Question 1: The book Chinese Cinderella is sad because her family always says that she is the reason why her mother died and that she should have died instead of her mother. in the story when her mean step mother hers them writing a letter to the father about her she becomes friends with the oldest sister who is there leader and has the best Chinese hand writing. When the oldest sister moves to the step mothers level of the house the oldest sister is not as close to the brothers and sister but to her half brothers and sisters. when her sister isnt as close to her and her brothers she becomes even closer to her aunt
Question 2: Some emotions i have for the book are is that it is sad because she is not wanted by any of her family because they think that she was the reason why there real mama died and now they live with there step mother who hates them and treats her daughter and son better than they get treated. Her family isn't very nice because of her mothers death so they always tease her and play pranks on her like when her brother put urine in a glass and some orange juice and told her it was a treat for being top of the class and went she drank it she was really upset and her brother that she trusted most was part of the prank and she had no trust in him.
Question 3: One of the parts that remind me of my own life in the book was when PLT her little duck died and she loved that pet. it reminds me of my old dog who died a while ago.
Another part that reminded me of my life was when adeline went to a new school and didn't know what it would be like. When i moved school i was scared because i didn't know any one and basically everyone knew each other and i was the only one who didn't know anyone and i felt lonely like adeline. the novel reminds me of another book i read and it was called cinderella and its about a girl whose not wanted.
Question 4: one of the characters i would like to be is the daughter of Niang which is the youngest sister. The reason i would want to be this character is because she is the real daughter of Niang and Niang prefers her children more then her step children and the youngest daughter has more privileges like going to parties, peoples houses, having people over.
Question 5 : I would change the characters name and the location because its an autobiography and i would be writing about my life not Adeline's because i don't know what Adeline's life was like until reading the book. I would all the character Darby because thats my name and i am writing an autobiography on my life and i would put the setting in Australia because thats were i live
Question 6: Some questions i have to the author are when your dad was going to give your duck to the dog why didn't you say please don't and beg him not to?
Why were you pleased to have your dads birthday when he forgot yours?
A question i would ask the Niang would be whats your problem?
A question i would ask the her father would be why did you let the dog kill the duck when you know that the kids like there ducks?
A question to the older sister why would you want to have an arranged marriage to some one you don't know.
Question 7: I am not confused about the book or what the author has written. I can understand the words used and so it didn't affect my understanding of the book.
Question 8: some things that make me stop and wonder are why her father had all her pictures of her real mama burned because then they don't know what she looked like and the mother they could of had.
Question 10: i would recommend it to some one like niang to show her how nasty she is and to think about others. I would recommend it to children in a orphanage because they might think that there not wanted but they can do big things if they put there minds to it.
Question 11: I would read more of these books because the author is good at writing and i really liked this book and i don't usually read lots of novels.
11. I would read another one of her other books because she is a good writer and her book chinese cinderella was really interesting and there were lots of different emotions.
12. The book summary: The book Chinese Cinderella is about a girl called Adeline Yen Mah.
In this book Adeline's mother dies after she gave birth to her, her family considers her bad luck because her family believes she's responsible for her mothers death and so her father marries a lady called Niang and she hates Adeline's and her brother and sister and only likes her own children. Because Niang only likes her children the other children are not allowed to go and do things that normal children do like going to peoples house or parties and Adeline has to walk to school because she spoke while Niang spoke and doesn't get the tram fair when everyone in her house does. In the book Adeline goes to her friends party on a day when theres a pupil free day and when Niang finds out she makes Adeline stay in her room until her dad comes home and isn't aloud any food. In the book all of the children get ducklings but Adeline gets the last pick and gets the smallest one. She grows very attached to her duck and its her only friend. One day after dinner her dad asked one of his sons to go and get one of those ducks to see how much the duck had learned. When Adeline hears this she knows that he was going to pick her duck. when they are out side her dad puts the duck on the lawn when the duck sees Adeline she quack and starts to walk over then her dog jumps on the duck and tears its foot of and her best friend dies.
13. Niang is the nastiest person in the house and always hits Adeline and yells at her
Father is very quiet he goes with what Niang says.
All Adeline's real brothers: They are very mean to Adeline and like to play tricks on her.
Aunt baba and YeYe are the only people who believe that she is worth while and good at school and believes in her.
Step brother is very spoilt by Niang
Step sister is also very spoilt by Niang
oldest sister is also very spoilt by Niang even though she is a step child.
Adeline has the lowest amount of power in the house and is often forgotten about
14. I have learned that in china they believe highly in adult respect and are often abused if they dont. Some things i have learned are that back in those days school was very exiting for the children.
